The Bible

Holy BibleHow we know the Bible is the true Word of God.

The Bible, the Holy Scriptures, was written by men under the influence and control of the Holy Spirit of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.  Therefore it is infallible, without error, and is the ultimate authority of all truth.  To claim to be the words of God then it must be perfectly correct and totally trustworthy.   It was written by 40 different men over a period of 1,500 years with no contradictions.  2 Peter 1:21 –  For the prophecy (the word of God) came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.  No other book ever written was compiled over such a long period of time with so many contributing authors.   It is a book of 66 books put together that have perfect unity and consistency throughout.

The Bible is like no other book in that it records hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled completely, without mistake.

In Daniel 9:24-27, Daniel predicted that Christ would come as Israel’s savior and Prince, 483 years after the Persian emperor would give the Jews authority to rebuild Jerusalem that was currently in ruins.  This was fulfilled hundreds of years later.  More than 300 prophecies were fulfilled by Christ Himself at His first coming.  Only the Bible has a 100% accuracy rate in regards to its prophecies.

The Bible is like no other book in that it is historically accurate.

There are multitudes of archaeological confirmations of the Biblical records such as dates of events, names of rulers, names of nations and cities which have all been confirmed by archaeology over and over again.  Dr. Nelson Glueck, an authority on Israeli archaeology said, “No archaeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference. Scores of archaeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible. And, by the same token, proper evaluation of Biblical descriptions has often led to amazing discoveries.”

The Bible is like no other book in that it is accurate in all of its scientific statements.

Many principles of modern science were recorded in the Bible centuries before they discovered them.

  • That the earth is round and not flat.  Isaiah 40:22 – It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
  • The vast extent of the universe.  Isaiah 55:9 –  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
  • The hydrologic cycle of the earth. (The cycles of water through evaporation and rain.) Ecclesiastes 1:7 – All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
  • The vast number of stars in the universe.  Jeremiah 33:22 – As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.
  • The law of entropy. (Matter degenerates over time.) Psalms 102:25-27 – Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
  • The gravitational field of the earth.  Job 26:7 –  He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

The Bible is truly God’s word given to us through the pen of man.

It is authored ultimately by the Holy Spirit as He spoke through men.  The main theme of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation,  is the redemption of man from his sins, through the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Please start reading your Bible immediately on a daily basis.  A few verses a day, or a chapter a day.  Begin to memorize verses so that you can carry God’s word with you in your heart wherever you go.  Psalm 119:11  – Thy word have I hid)  in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
